About us

We are a family-based organization established in northern Patagonia in 1908.

Five generations ago, the first member of our family, attorney and pioneer Don Juan Lagos Mármol, was asked by the Interior Minister to investigate certain irregularities being committed by the Justice Department of a small village in the Neuquén territory.

Following orders, he traveled two days by train and a week on horseback to the settlement of Catan-Lil. While conducting the investigation he became good friends with an old Patagonia landlord, Don Alejandro Arze. Soon after, Don Alejandro suggested the possibility of leasing two federal properties of 55,000 acres each. One property was located not far from where they were and the other one was located in the Patagonia Lake District close to the Andes and next to the Chilean border. They flipped a coin and Juan ended up with the second property in the Lake District.

Juan instantly fell in love with the site. Years later, he purchased the land, brought his family there and placed the first stone to build what Caballadas is today, the best kept secret in Patagonia!
